Bioscience will be a key economic driver in the 21st century, and
will require a well educated workforce capable of translating basic
discoveries into commercial products and services. The Fundamentals
of the Bioscience Industry program seeks to provide
life scientists with a comprehensive introduction to the bioscience
business environment including evolving business models, product
development cycles, regulatory issues, finance, managerial challenges
and future trends in the life sciences.
Program Goal
The program aims to provide current life sciences graduate students,
post-docs, and industry professionals with an understanding of what
drives the corporate decision making process, how to contribute
most effectively to the goals of the bioscience organization, and
how to utilize this understanding to advance their own careers.

Fully taught by industry professionals, The program
consists of 80 hours of highly interactive instruction organized
into four (4) complimentary modules. Class instruction will be augmented
with guest lectures by industry experts. Group projects, presentation
skills, and team approaches are all critical aspects of the program.
Program Format
The program consists of three 8-week sessions and one
session over 3 consecutive Saturdays. Each of the 8-week sessions
consists of one 2½-hour class per week, offered in two locations
on Long Island at Stony Brook University and in Manhattan at Stony
Brook Manhattan. The Spring 2008 program begins January 29th and
concludes May 22nd. Students enrolled in the program will
have the opportunity to participate in an industry internship after
successful completion of the program. Students
who complete all sessions will be awarded a Certificate of Completion
by the Center for Biotechnology.
Corporate Mentoring
A critical component of the program is the extensive mentoring
extended to all participants in the program. All students enrolled
will be given the opportunity to extend their learning experience
by interacting with industry executives in diverse fields. A major
benefit of the program is the first hand knowledge gained from industry
executives with extensive experience and insight into the dynamic
and evolving bioscience industry.
Corporate Fellowships
Our corporate sponsors have offered a limited number of paid fellowships
that will reimburse program costs and include a full-time (450 hour
min) paid internship at their corporate location. These fellowships
